Immunity Boosting Smoothie

Cold weather is no excuse to not drink smoothies. Enjoy them all-year-round, especially in winter for an extra immune and energy boost!

Paleo, vegan, dairy, egg, soy, nut, gluten, wheat and refined sugar free

Serves 1 for breakfast or 2 for a snack (makes approximately 3 cups/750ml)

Blend ingredients:Smoothie Ingredients

  • ½ banana
  • 1 cup fresh pineapple chunks
  • 1 peeled orange
  • Juice from ½ lemon
  • 1 small piece of fresh turmeric (or ¼ teaspoon dried turmeric powder)
  • 1 small piece of diced, fresh ginger (or ¼ teaspoon dried ginger powder)
  • 1 cup coconut milk in a carton (or almond milk)
  • Optional ½ -1 teaspoon of honey

Benefits:

  • Banana: abundant in the mineral potassium, a hydrating electrolyte. During winter we often become dehydrated due to heating and air conditioning.  Additionally, we often do not feel like drinking water due to coldness, as hotter temperatures stimulate thirst
  • Pineapple: high in potassium and immune-boosting vitamin C
  • Orange: high in potassium and immune-boosting vitamin C
  • Lemon: high in immune-boosting vitamin C and reduces mucous production
  • Turmeric: its antiviral properties protect against viral infections like the flu
  • Ginger: stimulates blood circulation, which warms up our body in winter
  • Coconut milk: unique fats in coconut are antibacterial and antiviral
  • Honey: antibacterial, and raw (unpasteurised) honey contains immune-enhancing probiotics (beneficial bacteria for our digestive system)
